Tau Lambda Lambda raises funds for cancer research

The John Lancaster & W. Cecil Short Charity Foundation, in partnership with the Tau Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., held its Inaugural Cancer Survivor Masquerade Ball Oct. 21 at the Greater Waldorf Jaycees Community Center.

Founded in 2005, the John Lancaster & W. Cecil Short Charity Foundation has worked to improve the lives of individuals and families in the Southern Maryland Region. This support is provided through education, events, cultural activities, scholarships and grants.

Five women, Frances Newton Washington, Margaret Marshall, Irene Posey, Cynthia Heath and Joyce Hall Shambley were recognized for their battles.

Linda Barnes, a registered nurse from the Charles County Health Department, was on hand to answer various health questions and hand out important health-oriented material.

its Annual Talent Hunt competition. The event was held on February 28th on the campus of the College

of Southern Maryland’s La Plata.

John Lancaster & W. Cecil Short (JL&WCS) Charity Foundation, Inc., held its an

annual scholarship awards program for students in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s

counties. Since 2008, we have awarded over $60,000 in scholarships and grants to deserving

students in pursuit of higher education.
